Philosophy of Education

My teaching philosophy is centered around a constructivist approach to learning. For example, my teaching philosophy's primary foundation is understanding students' dynamics, demographics, and perspectives. Art Education, as a subject in academia, is essential for students to become effective communicators of ideas. Moreover, Art Education allows students to discover current trends, develop cultural awareness, and partake in collaborative and innovative projects with themselves or others. To make learning accessible for all my students, I focus on delivering my Art Education content through a Teacher/Mentor system. Like atelier-style art workshops, I coach and mentor my art students based on their levels and needs by adapting developmentally appropriate practices. This will ensure that my lessons are accessible to all students. Regardless of art level, every student deserves an opportunity to be challenged according to their current level of art making. I expect to offer my students a space of inclusivity and critical thinking opportunities. I believe that my students can create anything in art as long as they master or demonstrate proficiency on the core fundamentals. As an art educator, I also aim to teach my students to become self-sufficient in how they approach their independent art practices. Moreover, it involves consistent troubleshooting, self-reliance, and solution orienting. When learning to draw for the first time, it is essential to establish good art-making habits early on. That is why, very early on in my classes, I will encourage my students to develop good art-making habits. Good art-making habits include many facets, such as proper posture, knowing your materials, practicing safekeeping in the studio, and knowing your "why" in making art. I take a rigorous approach and emphasize proficiency in technicality. My ultimate goal as an art educator is to deliver premier art training to my students to better equip them with the technical skills they need to create whatever their imagination takes them.
