Philosophy of Education:

My teaching philosophy is grounded in a constructivist approach, where learning is built through students’ experiences, identities, and perspectives. I prioritize understanding my students’ backgrounds and dynamics in order to design inclusive, responsive instruction that reflects principles of culturally responsive and sustaining pedagogy (CRSP). In my art classroom, students develop as visual communicators while exploring cultural awareness, contemporary ideas, and collaborative practices.
I implement a mentor-style, atelier-inspired model that aligns with Universal Design for Learning (UDL) by differentiating instruction based on students’ readiness levels, interests, and learning needs. Through flexible supports, varied entry points, and individualized coaching, all students are both supported and challenged appropriately. I also integrate social-emotional learning (SEL) by fostering a classroom environment rooted in inclusivity, self-reflection, and confidence-building, where students feel safe to take creative risks and develop their artistic voice. While I emphasize strong technical foundations and disciplined art-making habits, I equally value critical thinking, problem-solving, and student autonomy. My goal is to cultivate self-sufficient, reflective artists who can navigate their creative processes with intention, resilience, and purpose. Ultimately, I strive to provide rigorous, high-quality art education that empowers students to realize their full creative potential.
